• A Spelling Test For Teachers of Students with Learning Disabilities Gary Greene, California State University, Long Beach, LD Forum, Vol. 20, Number 3, Spring 1995. A Publication of the Council for Learning Disabilities. The purpose of this article is to allow special educators to test their knowledge of general and LD specific spelling research in order to ascertain the degree to which they are practicing sound instructional spelling methodology with their students.   • A Guide to Learning Disabilities for the ESL Classroom Practitioner Christine Root, Harvard University, TESL-Electronic Journal, Vol. 1 No. 1, April 1994. The purpose of this article is to allow educators to understand the problems ESL students who are also LD may face. Includes a helpful table that describes ways that learning problems manifest themselves in school into four categories of difficulties.   • Adaptive Computer Systems Home Page Adaptive Computer Systems has developed a line of Windows-based products serving as alternatives to the keyboard: Visual Keyboard, Visual HTMLboard, Visual Surfboard. With each of these products, the user interfaces with a computer with a standard input device (mouse, trackball, or simple switch). Several types of input devices are available to use whatever movement a person has to control input to a computer.

  • Center for Computer Assistance to the Disabled - CCAD The center is a unique non-profit organization whose mission is "enhancing the quality of life and employment options of persons with disabilities through the use of modified personal computers, adaptive devices, and custom software". The site provides many links to those organizations, services, and vendors concentrating primarily on information, referral and training where adaptive access is concerned.   • Center On Disabilities Located at California State, Northridge, and led by Dr. Harry Murphy. Their mission is to conduct research and demonstration projects into new technologies and service models, develop and publish materials of interest to the field of disability, assess and train persons with disabilities and those who serve them, and conduct conferences, seminars, and workshops in the United States and around the world. The adaptive systems which they supply allow people with visual impairments to gain access to the full range of industry-standard computer systems.
  • EASI: Equal Access to Software and Information EASI's mission is to serve as a resource to the education community by providing information and guidance in the area of access-to-information technologies by individuals with disabilities. They stay informed about developments and advancements within the adaptive computer technology field and spread that information to colleges, universities, K-12 schools, libraries and into the workplace. EASI is the recipient of two National Science Foundation grants to disseminate information on access for disabled persons to science, engineering and math.
